Tribute to Murali, the actor - Poomalaiyeh thol serava

Never thought I will write one for this actor. Somehow he was not my favorite, but still I would pay to watch a few of his movies for the subtlety of his acting. He never overacts or overreacts. He was never a controversial character. He never acted in big budget extravaganza. He never did larger than life roles. But he did immortalize a few roles that he enacted. I would pick Vetri kodi kattu as his best.
But when I think of Murali, the first thing that comes to my mind is the song below.

Directed by Manirathnam, a tender hero (in our Murali) and a very young heroine(Revathi) enact this song which remains hummable ever. Experimentation has really been Raja's forte but the vocal counterpoints used here is very new and refreshing to listeners. It had defied the concept of "peak interest time" as it continues to be one of the very different excellent compositions from Raja. Enough said about Raja, this song wouldnt have obtained a cult status without the perfect picturisation this one got. Manirathnam's credentials as director is as established as Raja's for a musician. But Murali and Revathi tugged our hearts with a very warm romance that they depict on screen and though we may have Murali no more among us, he will be one of the names that Tamil movie goers of 80's,90's and 2000s wont forget. May his soul rest in peace !

Kannamma Kadhal oru

I remember this song for a lot of things.. A suave voice and Vinodhini with just a shirt in particular. But what clings on and affects me most(I swear not the second one) is the simplicity of the tune and the genuineness of Raja while rendering it.
Some song that will always be in my list of nice songs to hear while i doze off. Thanks Raja for the zillion'th time :)

TV Serial Title songs

Off late TV serials have been having title songs as good as you can see in movies. I just wanted to share some of them that I thot was really fit enough to be a cult movie song

Arisi Maavale Kolam podu - From Malargal - This is based on Hamsanadham raaga - the same one that Thendral Vandhu and Sorgame endraalum...A genius composition.

Saaratha - Oru Nadhi.. Music is by Rajhesh Vaidhya the Veena genius.. Edhai thoduvathu.. edhai viduvathu.. Its a musical feast to put it simply..

Nitham oru - Sigaram : Sung by Bombay Jayashree. I guess the music is by Imaan and the Raaga is Kalyana Vasantham. An outstanding number. Though its been 9 years since i heard I still cant help it haunting me..

Naan Varuven.. Raavanan Climax song.

Master at Work. This is the Climax song of Raavan..Picturization from Mani is at its best and music in the background is bliss. For Junta who are watching in theaters please dont leave the hall till the rolling credits end. You might miss something that will haunt you for good :)
Rahman. You just never cease to amaze !

Oru poo Ezhuthum Kavithai..

It took months for me to digest and believe Bharadwaj is capable to churning out such a gem... I think it is HameerKalyani-but hell am i not bothered. An outstanding classical number by Unnikrishnan and Chitra with more western overtone in beats but then this one refuses to leave your senses even hours later than you finish hearing it.
Miraculous attempt by Bharadwaj- I would be happy if he can give us atleast one such number ever year. Gems like these get lost in the myriad bland tunes he offers more often than not. But credit to such a number. In fact one of my friends pointed out that this song is an inspired one from a hindi number. I've not heard it but still I owe this to the MD just for making me smile a lot.. Salutations ! A Near Flawless attempt.

Thenisai thendral... No wonder...

"Naan unai Anaippene iravedharku..." - SPB and Chithra rendering Desh raga with pristine orchestra that is so reminiscent of Ilayaraja's orchestrated but this one is from Deva.. A Stunner in all respects. Take a bow..
Ultimate tune, Ultimate rendition. Am short of adjectives as to how much I love the song :)
A suweeeeeeeeeeeet one.
Lyrics I will upload later.. but then Listen to it soon :)

Ennai Kavarnthizhutha Ramanan...

One word - 'Divine' ! Period.

Tuned in Raga Desh with lyrics drenched in devotion and voice so surrendering to Shri. Ramana Ilayaraja takes us to the musical paradise. Violin and flute that accompanies the voice cannot complement better.

Proud to say I lived in the era of Ilayaraja !
